After enduring enough trials and living to tell the tale, Murkoff decides they've earned their freedom, but the final chapter seems to hint that the company has ulterior motives.įrom the moment the Farewell Mansion mission begins, our constant narrator, Doctor Easterman, talks of our "rebirth". And that's exactly what they do, forcing our character, the Reagent, to complete a series of twisted trials, battle violent ex-prisoners and generally accomplish impossible tasks. So when they summon volunteers with no friends, family or responsibilities to their facilities at the start of Outlast Trials, you know they're about to violate pretty much every human right possible. Throughout Outlast 1, 2 and Whistleblower, we've seen what their experiments can do, and they're not pretty. These dudes are simply unmatched at coming up with the vilest, cruellest and most downright savage experiments you can possibly imagine, whether that's creating an all-powerful shadow ghost, turning a police officer into an 8ft pig man or using a brain-altering radio tower to turn a small town into a rapture-obsessed death cult. Although very few elements carry over between the games, the one big lore element that does is the Murkoff Corporation.
